Aging Well and Looking Fabulous after 50- The top 5 things that will help!

By Coach Monica Perras|  MVP Transformation Fitness | May 20, 2021 | 2 Min Read

Aging is a natural part of life, but aging healthy, fit, and mentally grounded, well, that may take some practice.  As we age gracefully, it’s still important to practice living focused, grounded, and intentional.

At MVP Transformation Fitness we believe there are five important areas of attention we must practice to stay fabulous after 50. Keep in mind, they're all interconnected, so it's suggested you make an effort to incorporate them all into your daily lifestyle habit-forming.

1- Reduce stress:

Reduce and eliminate stress-that means, avoid people, situations, and relationships that may cause or bring you stress. Those things we can’t avoid such as work, traffic, or even the long grocery store line are out of our control. Just breathe and keep your health in mind as you move through it.

2- Spirituality:

Practice and maintain a strong prayer and meditation life.  Prayer not only is about your faith, but it helps you mentally too.  Keeping you intentional throughout your entire lifestyle journey.

3- Practice a positive mindset:

Having a healthy mindset is super important. Your mental health is your wealth.  Without your strong and positive mental health, you cant take care of others, work, grow and even keep your “marbles” [easily tempered]. It doesn’t mean that we can’t allow ourselves to feel emotions when we need to feel or be upset, it’s about not allowing that experience to take over our lives. To dictate our next steps or even neglect our self-care.

4- Maintain a fit and active lifestyle:

Those of us who are over 50 know that we no longer wake up feeling like we use to 25 years ago.  The aches and pains can be REAL.  This is why Fitness is so paramount in our lives.  As we age, not only will a fitness routine help us maintain or lose unwanted weight, it will help us with ALL the other things I’ve mentioned so far.  It doesn’t need to be much, as little as 3 times per week will go a long way. So, you want to feel and look younger, I highly recommend you maintain a consistent fitness regimen if you haven't already.  At MVP Transformation Fitness, we help you hone in all the necessary workouts, nutrition, and other lifestyle habits (stress reduction, positive mindset about your new journey and eating habits and more). We offer free discovery sessions to help you get started with the process.

5- Eat Right, Not Diet:

The last point I would like to mention is food, we must be more conscious of what, why, and when we are eating.  Aging well and looking fabulous over 50 means we more aware of taking care of ourselves.  Food is no exception. Stay away from processed, fried, sugary foods. Eat cleaner by having fresh fruit, veggies (lots of them), good protein sources, and of course, plenty of water.  This doesn't me you must deprive yourself, you must eat with intention by eating in moderation and infrequency of the not so healthy foods.  We can help you learn how to best eat with our nutritional coaching program (which is a part of our PT program).  Get your free consult today.

At our gym we focus on many of these areas of the lifestyle building blocks to provide a full circle of support while on your weight loss journey.  So, if you think you struggle with areas holding you back from being your very best, contact us. We would love to help you look fabulous over 50 to keep being your fabulous self for many years to come.

Tips to raise caloric burn throughout the day_ Start a fire within!

by Monica Perras

If you have a very packed schedule and cannot go to the gym every day, then calorie burn must be a difficult task for you.  Also, sitting for an extended time at the office can cause stubborn belly fat and increase the risk of obesity. So, you have to figure out some ways to lose those extra calories without stepping into a fitness gym such as MVP Transformation Fitness. Here are some smart tips to raise calories burn throughout the day:

● Take the stairs instead of the elevator or escalator.

● Park at the far end of the parking lot.

● Drink caffeinated green or black tea.

Sleep better.

● Eat smaller, more frequent meals.

● Take regular breaks from your desk to stretch and walk around.

● Never skip breakfast.

● Breathe deeply and continue for a few moments.

●Choose low carb, high fiber foods.

● Walk more briskly than your usual pace.

● Drink at least 8 cups of water a day.

Don’t stress.

● Work your legs a bit while sitting.

●Take Vitamin D.

● Have your casual meeting with coworkers while walking (if you’re working from an office of course).

● Eat low-fat dairy.

Attend the gym at least 3 times per week.

It may seem a lot, but looking carefully you will understand that these are just a few small changes in your lifestyle. Implementing these tips in your daily life will boost your calorie burn and make a big difference in your metabolism. At MVP Transformation Fitness, we help you design a custom lifestyle and nutritional plan that will help you supercharge your metabolism and help you burn more calories.

Our program is proven to get you results simply because we work with you one-on-one to determine where you are deficient and where you are excelling in your current lifestyle.  The goal is to develop new habits that will fuel your weight loss and fitness goals like never before.  We offer several programs and plans that will help you finally see weight loss and fitness in a whole new way.  Let us know what you think about these hacks as you try them.  We love hearing from our readers

Do Carbs Make me Fat?

By MVP Transformation Fitness

No more of this and no more of that...that's likely what you think when you start a new weight loss diet-right? Well, you're not alone. Many us of who start or change our diets believe that we have to skimp on the carbs (sugars, starches, and fiber) in order to effectively lose weight.

Ok, in-part, you should give up certain types of carbs, but you don’t have to eliminate all carbs from your diet entirely in order to lose weight, no matter what your friend doing the Keto diet tells you.

We need carbohydrates to function at our best in the long-term. Here’s the catch, though: refined carbs like white bread and pasta have literally been stripped of all their nutritious elements. So not only do these types of carbs spike your blood sugar, but they are linked to inflammation in the body, and they really aren’t adding any value to your diet either. So, choose your carbs wisely! Instead of refined carbs, opt for high-quality carbohydrates like quinoa, oats, sweet potatoes, bananas, or legumes and skip the processed grains and sugars.  MVP Transformation Fitness has a nutritional and lifestyle coaching service that will help you with all of the facets of dieting and lifestyle behaviors to help you succeed. Get a complimentary session to learn more.  Remember: any food can cause weight gain if you eat too much. So, keep all things in moderation.

Is My Weight Gain Caused by Slowed Metabolism?

Tone Up Tuesday Class

Wonder if your weight gain is caused by your metabolism slowing down or some other underlying reason? You've probably heard that when you hit 40, it's downhill for your weight. The inexplicable force on the metabolism rate begins to grind slower each year from 30 years onwards.  But what is metabolism?

Metabolism is the process through which your body converts food into energy. Even when at rest, you need some energy to aid in breathing, repairing cells, and circulating blood.

Here's what you should know: studies show that the rate of metabolism slows down in older age is rather minimal. Additionally, weight gain in midlife is not due to slower metabolism. The reality is that, as we age, we get less active.

Think about how much more active you were before kiddos, marriage, full-time jobs, cooking dinner, and all the other million things that we have on our plate as we get older.

Regardless of whether you have a slow or fast metabolic rate, our bodies are synchronized to store excess energy in fat cells. Taking in more calories with reduced body activity (older people are lesser active) expands your body for weight gain.

This is why it's very important that we maintain a balanced fitness and nutritional regimen like we offer at MVP Transformation Fitness, to help support your metabolism as you age. We recommend that you workout at least 3 times per week and practice mindful or intuitive eating to ensure your fitness efforts are effective.

Generally, you don't have any control over your body's metabolism. However, to keep a healthy weight, you should reduce and control your calorie intake. Additionally, you need to be more active. Engage in regular physical activity to burn your calories.  At MVP Transformation Fitness, we have many programs that can provide you with the guidance and tools to "speed" things up in your fitness lifestyle. Contact us to learn how we can help. The clock is ticking.

The Things No One Tells You about Losing Weight

Less than 2 Months of Training and Diet Change

Losing weight can be one of the most exciting and yet challenging things you can accomplish. At first, you are super pumped, ready to commit to new eating habits, and excited about the possibility of a new and better you as a result. However, changing your diet has unforeseen challenges. Of course, none of these challenges are impossible to address or overcome, but it’s likely that you’re not going to be aware or even think of these challenges prior to starting your new weight loss path. I have identified a few that I personally experienced during my own weight loss journey I’d like to share to get you prepared.

1. You’re going to hear a lot of conflicting and unwanted opinions. During your quest to a better and healthier you, there may people in your circle that will offer you advice or have an opinion about how you should diet or what to eat in order to achieve your goals. Remember, their input or advice likely says more about them than you. So, learn to take nutritional and dieting advice from sources you can trust like your Nutritional Coach or Personal Trainer.

2. Eating fewer calories is going to be hard at first. Changing the number of calories or a different type of caloric intake will be hard at first, but as your body adapts to these changes, it will become a lot easier. Your body has been used to eating certain types of foods at much higher caloric levels. Once you begin to monitor your food intake and develop new nutritional habits, it will normalize. Your Coach can help you target your calories in order to align with your fitness goals.

3. You may find yourself thinking about food constantly. Changing your diet may be like a “mind shock” at first. Now you find yourself thinking about what you can or cannot eat seemingly all the time. This is where the benefit of working with a Nutritional and Lifestyle Coach comes into play. With a custom food and meal strategy, you absolutely can’t go wrong. We have all been there, trying to determine what to eat on your own while trying a new fitness journey. This can simply lead to frustration (especially if you have tried this before without success) and ultimately, giving up. MVP Transformation Fitness really understands how this diet roller coaster thing works, which is why we offer nutritional and lifestyle coaching included in many of our memberships and personal training plans- no frustration here. Just a custom way to ensure your success.4. The Big ONE-don’t expect to lose weight fast. When you initially start your weight-loss plan, it may take a while before you actually see a massive drop in weight. But you can’t give up because you don’t see changes right away. Your body is trying to adapt, especially if you are engaging in a new fitness routine or plan. You must allow your body to move through this new process and soon you will see your body transform and stay that way. Changing your diet and eating habit can have a long-lasting impact as long as you remain consistent, be patient, and keep your eye on the prize-not the scale. You’ve got this! #theweightisover

Top ways to Keep Your New Year's Resolution Fitness Goals

Our hand is Here to Help

·         Have an accountability partner. Aiming for a goal, especially one such as weight loss, is much harder to accomplish on your own. If you have a partner or someone to be accountable for your health and wellness decisions, you are much more likely to succeed. MVP Transformation Fitness will be your accountability partner in your fitness goals. We offer nutrition guidance and coaching, personal training, and health coaching to help you on your fitness journey. Join us today!

·         Make a plan. You can’t succeed by just joining a gym and then showing up and expecting to know what to do. You’ll need to decide what days you will train, for how long, and which activities you will do. If you’re unsure, MVP Transformation Fitness can help. We offer group fitness classes for you to see what you like. We offer open gym access, instructional strength training classes, Total Body Pump, martial arts-inspired yoga classes. We have something for everyone at MVP Transformation fitness, so try us today!

·         Slow and steady wins the race. If you start out really hard and end up sore and in misery, because you can’t walk up the stairs for three days, odds are, you will quit, especially if you’ve been mostly sedentary for a while. You have time to go all out at high-intensity multiple times a week like others you may see around you. Have faith that you will get there. So in the meantime, work your body up to that level. Three times a week is fine, and low-to moderate-intensity will be sufficient to elicit a great response and results.

·         Set realistic goals. Many people quit their exercise routine because they think it’s not working when they don’t see results soon enough. Transforming your body and losing weight takes time. You’re not going to wake up one day and see a toned body and two inches gone. All of this takes time and if you quit, you’ll never see results or know what you’re capable of. Aiming to lose one pound every two weeks is realistic. Aiming to lose one pound every two days is not.

MVP Transformation Fitness in Hutto, Texas, is here to support you, encourage you, and be your accountability partner, so you can finally accomplish your fitness goals. We understand the heartache and frustration trying to lose weight and get fit can be. It’s hard work — every step you take — but MVP Transformation Fitness is here to help you smash your fitness goals and finally get fit in 2021.
